All right my beauties? It's book time again!
This month’s book is the amazing FanGirl by Rainbow Rowell. I had never heard
of this author before, but after reading a brilliant review of it on 'Fine and Dandy' by the gorgeous Claire I just knew I’d have to check it out. And boy, am I glad I
did! Well, being honest I bought this for my sister as a graduation present but
she reads even faster than me so I knew it wouldn’t be too long before I got my
hands on it!
The book follows a pair of twins, Cath, our
shy, introvert narrator and Wren, her out-going adventure seeking sister.
They’ve both just moved to college and are in separate bedrooms for the first
time ever. Wren is thriving in her new life with her new roommate and plenty of boys, but Cath has
been paired with an older, intimidating girl and has to face these struggles
alone. Cath’s priority has always been writing her fan fiction and she doesn’t
see why college should change this. We follow the girls (mainly Cath) as they
go through family struggles, college life and first love(s).
As ever I won’t elaborate too much more as
I don’t want to spoil it for any of you but this book is incredible. The story
is utterly heartwarming and I personally felt like I related to all the
characters in different ways, which is a credit to Rowell’s writing. As the
book progresses the characters and their relationships develop beautifully and
I personally really cared about what happened to them all! I absolutely loved Cath’s narration. Of the
two twins I would describe myself as more of a ‘Wren’ but being inside Cath’s
mind was a whole new perspective for me. Rowell really gets how into the
Internet a-lot of us are these days, and it hit home that sometimes we are all
guilty of spending too much time with our online ‘friends’ and forgetting to
live our real lives!
This book was just a complete treat to read
– which explains why I did so in about 2 days. Oops! I just could not put it
down, and it didn’t even feel like a strain. I’m already thinking about
ordering another of Rowell’s books as I’m so impressed by this one, and that is
why it’s getting 5/5 from me!
Have you read FanGirl? Or any other of
Rainbow Rowells’ books? Xo
PS – Big thanks again to Claire from FineAnd Dandy for bringing this book to my attention! xx

DeleteWow - what a glowing recommendation. I had read a magazine review on this book (the tile totally got me in) and honestly it sounded a bit shit and I didn't think anymore about it. But your review makes me think I might need to stop by the book store on the way home.
ReplyDeleteLiterally changed my mind about reading - I don't know if you get paid for this post but I think you definitely should be (perhaps hit up Rainbow for a cut :)
Excellent work!
