Once you go MAC...

7.2.14

So a few weeks ago I popped to Liverpool to surprise all my uni friends, and while I was there I just had to pop into MAC and get my first few proper pieces to try out the brand. I’ve only ever had lippys and although they’re amazing I was dying to try out their foundations. As my best mate (and fellow makeup lover) Charlotte said ‘Once you go MAC you’ll never go back’. So naturally I had to test this out.  It was a really miserable afternoon and the shop was rammed! Despite this I still got service relatively quickly and the lovely Alex helped me pick out a foundation and concealer. I opted for MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW15 and MAC Select Cover-Up also in NW15.

Alex kindly re-did my foundation using Studio Fix and from the moment it was on my skin I loved it! Studio Fix is described as having a ‘natural matte finish with medium-buildable coverage’. This really hits the nail on the head. I usually love a really heavy coverage but my skin condition has started to improve (yay) so I’m able to use lighter foundations. I usually buff it into my skin using my trusty Illamasqua Highlighter brush or Real Techniques Buffing Brush. Studio Fix is great because I can wear it light or build it up depending on my situation. It’s perfect for my oily/combination skin type as it absorbs excess sebum and keeps me shine free all day, even without reapplying powder.

The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was that the handy pump to distribute the product comes separately. When in MAC Alex told me about 1½ pumps would cover my face I thought this was so helpful, until discovering it came separately. I didn’t buy it that day but I think I might have to order it online soon as I find that I’m pouring too much product boo. I hate waste!

I really love this product as I find it rivals Estee Lauders Double Wear for its coverage and staying power, and it’s a lot cheaper at £21.50 (£25.50 with the pump though).

I also purchased the Select Cover-Up in NW15 as I saw the gorgeous Nic from Pixiwoo use it in a number of tutorials, and I fancied a MAC concealer to pair with my foundation. I asked for a lighter colour as I tend to use concealer as a highlighter also. When she gave me NW15 again I was a bit confused but she explained that although it’s the same shade, the formula of the product makes it lighter. Okay so she did explain it in more detail than that but it was 3 weeks ago and I can’t remember sorrryy! I really really love this product. The brightening effect it has on me is crazy! If I’m having a particularly tiresome day I’ll pop it on using my Real Techniques Foundation Brush, and then buff it in.  It has blended beautifully on any foundation I’ve tried it on which is always a plus! And it’s long-lasting which suits me perfectly.

I will say that because it’s such a heavy concealer you have to work quickly with it as its sets so fast! And if you leave it too long getting it to blend is a right pain. But if you, like me use concealer as a highlighter I would definitely recommend this product, or if you need a little extra help covering those bags!

I also treated myself to a cheeky eyeshadow when I was there, whoops.. It was just too tempting! It unfortunately hasn’t been used yet but I am super excited to try it out after my success with these two!

Amazing coverage!

I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot more time stocking up on MAC products from now on. What are your favourite MAC products? Have you tried Studio Fix or Select Cover-Up? xo
